The Women Who Won

New years resolutions... we all have them right? Well mine was more of a personal goal - something I had set out to do a long time ago, and something I was determined to make happen with the new year of 2014. That goal? To photograph a live birth. To capture those moments when Mom sees her baby for the first time. Sadly, as with most new genres of photography, one doesn't just simply hop into it, as most people don't even think of hiring a photographer to be there for that moment. So I made the choice of running a contest. I wanted to get word out there that this was something I WANTED TO DO. It was something that SHOULD BE DONE. You photograph your wedding, why not your child's birth?

This contest brought so many amazing people into my path. I was astounded by the response I received. From hopeful mothers-to-be, to best friends and even acquaintances who believed they knew just the right candidate. With an overwhelming win, Alyssa, Molly + Kevin came into my life.

I met with them on a Friday night, it was cold, rainy and foggy. We discussed all the wants, the must haves, the ideal situation, and worst case scenarios of photographing this pending birth of Molly + Kevin's first babies - yes babies. Twins. One boy and one girl. Alyssa was Molly and Kevin's surrogate, and what better way to top off this amazing gift? The gift of photographs too.

It wasn't even 4 days after our first meeting when I got the text that Alyssa was in the hospital to be induced, I spent a large chuck of my night at the hospital with this amazing family. I couldn't be more overjoyed for someone. Congratulations Molly + Kevin! Thank you Alyssa for being so amazing for them. You are so appreciated. <3

Here are a few of my favorite images from the big night.

Oh and by the way, these babies have two different birthdays! How awesome is that?!
